The San Antonio Spurs have officially kicked their rebuild into overdrive.

On a trade deadline day when they've already made a deal to ship off Thaddeus Young and Drew Eubanks, they shocked NBA fans everywhere by agreeing to a trade with the Boston Celtics that will be sending off Derrick White.

White's name had come up in rumors briefly after there was interest from the Atlanta Hawks, but the deal with Boston was on nobody's radar -- a strategy the Spurs seem to have perfected over the years.

As ESPN's Zach Lowe shared, San Antonio will be getting the Celtics' 2022 first-round pick as long as it doesn't fall in the top four (they likely won't drop that far). They'll also get the right to swap with Boston in the first round in 2028.

Dejounte Murray Reacts to the Derrick White Trade

Shortly after the trade was announced, Dejounte Murray shared a shocked gif of Kevin Hart, hinting that he had no idea the move was coming.

Murray was close with White, and they had formed quite a two-way backcourt in San Antonio. Still, White didn't quite break out as many hoped he would and has been struggling offensively for most of the season. Later in the afternoon, Devin Vassell retweeted Murray's tweet.

The departure of White likely will open the door for Vassell to enter the starting lineup and continue to expand in his role with the Spurs. Joshua Primo will also likely benefit by getting more minutes as well.

It'll be a very interesting media day when the Spurs get set to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
