The San Antonio Spurs have a tough matchup (entering as 14.5 point underdogs at home) against the league’s top team, the Boston Celtics, on Sunday.

This New Year’s Eve matchup features a ton of star power, including Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, who is not listed on the team’s injury report after missing San Antonio’s last game.

Wemby is a great player to consider betting in the prop market, especially if you’re looking to wager on the Spurs. Rather than betting the team as a massive underdog, why not take some props on star players?

I have three picks for New Year’s Eve’s Celtics-Spurs clash:

Celtics vs. Spurs best NBA prop bets

  • Victor Wembanyama OVER 17.5 points
  • Jayson Tatum OVER 13.5 assists and rebounds
  • Devin Vassell OVER 2.5 3-pointers made

Victor Wembanyama OVER 17.5 points

This season, Wemby is averaging 18.8 points per game, but he’s seen his minutes go down since suffering an ankle injury.

The Spurs are trying to keep their prized rookie healthy, and it appears he can still thrive in limited minutes. Wemby had 30 points in 24:21 against the Portland Trail Blazers, and he’s taken at least 14 shots in each of his last two games on limited playing time.

On the season, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft has 18 or more points in 15 of the 27 games that he’s appeared in. I expect him to put together a strong showing against a Boston frontcourt that isn’t particularly deep.

Jayson Tatum OVER 13.5 assists and rebounds

This may be my favorite prop in this game, as Jayson Tatum has been filling up the stat sheet for Boston this season, averaging 27.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

If you’re willing to bet on a Celtics player, he’s your guy.

Tatum has cleared 13.5 rebounds and assists in six of his last 10 games, averaging 8.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game over that stretch.

This is a favorable matchup for the Celtics star against a Spurs team that allows the fourth most assists per game to opponents and is just 27th in the NBA in rebounding percentage. I expect Tatum to fill up the stat sheet on Sunday night.

Devin Vassell OVER 2.5 3-pointers made

One of my favorite Spurs bets all season long has been the OVER on Devin Vassell’s 3-point prop.

The sharpshooting wing is averaging 2.6 made shots from deep on 7.2 attempts per game, and he’s cleared 2.5 made 3s in 14 of the 26 games he’s played in this season.

The volume for Vassell has been there, as he’s taken at least six shots from beyond the arc in every game since Nov. 22.

This is a good matchup as well. The Celtics rank 26th in the NBA in opponent 3-pointers made per game this season.
