The day has finally arrived for the 2024 NBA Draft. NBA fans everywhere can rejoice as the time for speculation will end and the seemingly endless mock drafts will take a vacation for a while. The San Antonio Spurs are in the best position of all lottery teams in the top 10, with the only other arguable option being the Memphis Grizzlies, considering Ja Morant is due to return next season. However, two top-10 selections and Victor Wembanyama still tip the scales when comparing the two organizations.

Having two draft picks in the lottery gives San Antonio various options that don't sabotage their future—a swing-and-miss can be recovered from. But a miss shouldn't be expected here. When you have a generational player, you take caution while examining every angle possible to improve your team. Spurs fans should be excited to know that General Manager Brian Wright is doing just that.

The Spurs are making the timeline up as they go

No matter how much you plan, growth rarely goes according to plan. Life is full of twists and turns, but not all of them are bad, and your path to elevation comes faster than you expected. That's so obviously the case with San Antonio that it would be foolish to think that a slow burn is the best decision for the franchise; it's not.

Thankfully, they realize that and will exhaust all options to push the team back into contention. Whatever the team does, they'll do it intelligently. Speeding up the process does nothing for you if you fall on your face, forfeiting all momentum. Making deals just for the illusion of aggression is worse than doing nothing, so understand that the due diligence is being performed by the front office, and just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't the highest priority.
