It was no secret that San Antonio Spurs fans were waiting for the team to a make a big-name signing in free agency this offseason. Though it looks like Gregg Popovich and the front office missed out on snagging a superstar to place alongside Victor Wembanyama, there are several former Spurs that are still available who could provide this young squad with valuable veteran leadership.

1.) Gorgui Dieng

The Spurs renounced the free agent rights to Dieng earlier this week after lackluster production from the seven-footer in his second stint with the team. Regardless of his declining per-game numbers, he made an undeniable impact in the locker room as a reliable veteran presence for one of the youngest teams in the NBA.

Dieng was loved among fans, and at 33 years old, his leadership and expereince could come in handy for a ball club that is still managing a rebuild. Even if the Spurs can't find a roster spot for him, perhaps they can convince him to take on an assistant role at the end of the bench, where he can spready his knowledge of the game.
