The San Antonio Spurs are only a few weeks into the offseason, but they have almost reached one of the most exciting points of the summer: the NBA Draft Lottery. After a disappointing season, Spurs fans will be ecstatic to see where their team lands in a loaded 2023 draft class.

After the lottery unfolds and the draft concludes, San Antonio's front office will pivot to another crucial junction of the NBA offseason when free agency commences. There will no doubt be several intriguing names out there for the Spurs to monitor, but there is one specific need they will want to address after this past season.

The Spurs were possibly the worst defensive team in the entire NBA this season. They ranked dead last in opponent points per game and opponent field goal percentage, along with a league-worst defensive rating of 120. Regardless of who they pick in the draft, they will need to add some capable defenders in free agency to have any chance of sniffing the playoffs next season.
