4 Second-Round prospects the Spurs should target in the 2023 NBA Draft
Mouhamed Gueye is the most unique name on this list in that he has neither worked out for the Spurs nor has a legitimate opportunity to earn minutes for Head Coach Gregg Popovich as a rookie. The 20-year-old only began playing organized basketball in 2019, but his physical tools and natural talent are the driving forces behind his appeal. And after a productive sophomore season, he is worth a gamble.
While the Senegalese forward was inefficient and turnover prone at Washington State, you can see a blueprint to him becoming a dynamic frontcourt contributor. He is a silky-smooth athlete who sprints the floor with ease, leaps off the ground in the blink of an eye, and handles the ball like a guard. Gueye feasted on the boards and flashed shooting touch, and he has the makings of a mismatch nightmare.
With a nimble feet, flexible hips, and a 7-foot-3 wingspan, the former Cougar standout has ridiculous measurables that could turn him into a prized multipositional defender. He can slide with guards, wall up in the post, and theoretically provide rim protection. Gueye is miles away from being ready for any meaningful minutes in the league, but a smart front office might be rewarded for exercising patience.
