The San Antonio Spurs have turned the page on the 2023–24 season. The new year will be upon us sooner than you may realize, and there's a lot to look forward to. The Silver and Black have one of the most promising young cores in the league, and fans are hoping that they take the kind of step forward that proves that.

After a dismal campaign, Victor Wembanyama and the crew have something to prove. The addition of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes has also brought expectations to a group that isn't used to having them, and after back-to-back 22-60 records, they have no choice but to improve. But San Antonio isn't the only team in the Western Conference that improved, so the season will be another huge test for the guys.

The regular season schedule has yet to be released, so we don't know who the Spurs will kick off the season against, but we have an idea of which teams would make for great opening games.

4. Los Angeles Lakers

The rivalry between the Spurs and the Lakers in the early 2000s was one for the ages. The battles between Tim Duncan and San Antonio against Shaq, Kobe and Los Angeles will live on for decades, but, admittedly, the feud has lost a bit of its luster in recent years. It seems that whenever one of the teams is good enough to be relevant, the other is not. However, that doesn't mean the resentment doesn't still exist.

Spurs fans still do not like Lakers fans, and vice versa. LeBron James is still playing at a high level, and San Antonio will be on the come-up, adding to the intrigue that's been lacking lately. James will be entering his 20th season, so there's no telling how much longer the Purple and Gold will hang on the edge, but the Spurs are kicking in the door. If there's ever a time to get the most out of what's left of this rivalry, it's this season, making the Lakers a great pick for the first game of the year.
