2024 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Spurs get 2 game-changers, Wizards land potential star at 1

6. Memphis Grizzlies take Ja’Kobe Walter
Every team in the NBA wants shooting. They never have enough floor spacers, and it was a problem for Memphis in 2023. The Grizzlies finished the regular season 23rd in 3-point percentage and shot just 31.2 percent as the Lakers bounced them in the first round of the playoffs.
They need additional floor spacers around Ja Morant, and finding a wing shooter with this surprise lottery pick should be a priority. It was a throwaway season as their star point guard played just nine games, but Memphis expects to be back in the playoffs in 2025. Finding a young talent who is ready to contribute would be a plus.
Walter shot just 34.0 percent from 3-point range at Baylor, but the 19-year-old has shown the ability to hit off movement. Putting more space around him with Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr. could allow his shooting to pop. Walter would have to improve his defense and decision-making to play right away, but getting a skilled 6’5 shooter should be the Grizzlies' focus.
Ja’Kobe Walter likely never becomes a star, but he has a high probability of being an impactful rotation piece for 15-ish years in the NBA, assuming he stays healthy. It might not be the flashiest pick at sixth overall, but Memphis has their stars. They need role players to improve their odds of winning, and Walter should do just that.
