2024 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Spurs get 2 game-changers, Wizards land potential star at 1

5. Portland Trail Blazers choose Matas Buzelis
Coming into the year, Buzelis and G League Ignite teammate Ron Holland were projected by most outlets to be the top two selections in the 2024 NBA Draft. One disastrous campaign later, Buzelis hopes to taken in the top five and Holland could be out of the top ten. Buzelis missed some time but showed enough to be taken near the top.
The Ignite did not exactly put the 6’10 wing in positions to thrive this season. He averaged 13.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 31.5 minutes per game. His shooting percentages were not ideal, but the Ignite lacked a true point guard and had a mismatched roster.
Finding someone with his size capable of handling the ball, getting a bucket, and defending multiple positions is not easy. Buzelis must improve his jumper, defense, and overall game to reach his ceiling, but the 6’10 forward could be an elite role player on a contender.
The Portland Trail Blazers are looking for size on the wing, especially if they plan to trade Jerami Grant this summer. Matas Buzelis gives them a development option to slide into that position as they rebuild. Portland is loaded in the backcourt, and Buzelis should help enhance the talent on their roster.
