17. Los Angeles Lakers select Kyle Filipowski

The Pelicans deferred this selection to take LA’s first-rounder in 2025. They are betting on the Lakers to struggle and banking on a superior prospect becoming available in a deeper draft. Do not be surprised to see Rob Pelinka and company try to trade this pick, but finding value won’t be easy.

Filipowski was significantly better in year two at Duke. He showed a developing 3-point stroke, the ability to protect the rim, and improved playmaking. The seven-footer has an intriguing skill set for his size and may blossom into something more at the next level.

The Lakers are always searching for a big man to play next to Anthony Davis. Drafting and developing Kyle Filipowski is their best option. He should be ready for minutes quickly and can take some pressure off AD inside.

18. Orlando Magic draft Johnny Furphy

The Magic are loaded with young talent and can afford to take someone with a higher upside here. Furphy had an up-and-down lone season at Kanas. The 19-year-old profiles as a plus-shooter with versatility. Finding a 6’9 wing capable of knocking down shots and guarding multiple positions is not easy.

Orlando can play him next to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner as they are building a skilled core with tremendous size. The Magic have had success developing talent. Furphy may be their next success story and an impactful rotation piece for a decade-plus.
