2024 NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Spurs attack needs, Hornets make shock selection

15. Miami Heat grab Jared McCain
McCain is another fast riser. He was projected as a first-round pick before the season but struggled to find his footing at Duke. The 6’2 guard located it in December and averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in 34 minutes per game over his last 28 contests. McCain shot 48.0 percent from the field and 41.6 percent on his threes over that stretch.
The Heat would love to add another versatile guard capable of spacing the floor, making some plays, and holding his own on defense. McCain could fit nicely next to Tyler Hero or just be a key piece of Miami’s next era.
16. Philadelphia 76ers take Isaiah Collier
The Sixers could go in several different directions, but the most likely is trading this pick. Joel Embiid is the only player on their roster with a guaranteed contract for next season. President Daryl Morey has his sights set on adding a third star and building a title contender. Philly still needs depth to make that a reality.
Collier was projected to be the number one overall pick early in the season, but shooting woes coupled with an injury and subpar play at USC forced his stock to dip. The 19-year-old averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 30.0 minutes per game, but there are questions about how his game translates to the next level.
Collier is a plus athlete, but his defense was a negative in college. He must improve on that end and limit his turnovers if he wants to be an impactful option in the NBA. Playing next to Embiid and Tyrese Maxey should help Collier find space and get easy buckets. It could do wonders for his overall game and is something to watch if he lands in the City of Brotherly Love.
