2024 NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Spurs attack needs, Hornets make shock selection
By Tyler Watts
14. Portland Trail Blazers (via Warriors) choose Ja’Kobe Walter
Walter is a name to watch. He struggled during his lone season at Baylor but was a top-ten player in his class coming out of high school. Every team wants more shooting and another wing. Walter could pop in the right situation.
He averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 32.3 minutes per game, but shot just 37.6 percent from the field and 34.1 percent on his threes. The 19-year-old’s play was inconsistent. Walter was a plus shooter in high school and has teams questioning which sample to believe.
Fans should not be surprised to see Ja’Kobe Walter go in the top ten or still be on the board in the 20s. His draft range is wide. The 6'5 wing must wait for a team who believes in his shooting and defense. Walter has the potential to be a key rotation piece for 15-plus years in the NBA but needs the right situation to reach it.
The Trail Blazers are in the early stages of a rebuild. They snagged Donovan Clingan at seventh overall and desperately need some wing help to round out their young core. Walter makes sense and should have plenty of room to operate in Rip City. It is all about finding his stroke and improving his overall game.
