Popular NBA insider ruining Giannis dreams for Spurs fans who actually want that

Let's hope Jake Fischer is right on this one.

If you've been holding out hope that the Spurs will make a move for Giannis Antetokounmpo, even at the expense of Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper, have someone hold your hand while you read the rest of this. It's not happening. If you don't believe me, listen to Jake Fischer's take on the situation.

San Antonio is probably the most stubborn organization in the league, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. They aren't going to rush players back from injury, they won't make panic moves, they won't overreact to poor performances, and they for damn sure aren't going to trade away two of the best young players in the league for a star on the other side of 30.

"But it's Giannis!" Yeah, yeah, I know. He's going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The Greek Freak will go down as one of the most dominant players in NBA history. He's also had some concerning injuries over the past few seasons, and his physical style of play doesn't bode well for a graceful decline. He still has a couple of prime years left, but that's not enough to give up so much of the future.

The Spurs have the core they need and shouldn't touch it

Let me ask a question that nobody seems to be asking about this make-believe trade scenario. Let's say Brian Wright agrees to send Castle or Harper to Milwaukee for their franchise superstar. Why hasn't anyone been asking questions about fit like they were when the Spurs landed the number two overall pick?

Allow me to take a step back for a second here; if either of the young guards were moved, it would more than likely be Steph because his path to stardom is projected to be more strenuous. Harper is such a natural, likely stemming from his background as the son of a multi-time NBA champion. So, let's pretend that the reigning Rookie of the Year is moved.

Who is playing off the ball the most when Giannis, De'Aaron Fox, and Victor Wembanyama are on the court at the same time or when Harper is on the floor? The two-time MVP, one of the best downhill scorers in the league, the most unique specimen the NBA has ever seen? Somebody has to spot up for a few more catch-and-shoot jumpers than they've been used to. A lot would have to change.

If anyone needs the ball in their hands to do the maximum amount of damage possible, it's Milwaukee's 6'11" powerhouse. Interestingly enough, he's shooting a career-high 44% from three this year, but you better not fall for that. In his 12 years in the league, Giannis has never shot 35% from outside. He shot 22% last year. It's highly unlikely that he's going to stay this hot. I'll believe it when I see it.

Their mix works right now because they have a varied attack that emphasizes confidence in whoever is on the floor. The person attacking the defense could be Fox, Castle, Harper, Wemby, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, etc. It's led them to a top 10 offense and one of the best records in the league with a bunch of guys rotating in and out of the lineup. The last thing they need is a major shakeup.
