Congratulations to OKC and everything, I guess, but this is most certainly an awful development for the sanity of Spurs fans. The San Antonio and Oklahoma City have been rivals ever since the Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili Big 3 era clashed with the Thunder's Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook saga.
It was dormant for a short time as neither team was very relevant, but since Victor Wembanyama has crash-landed in SA and their counterparts up north acquired their own 7'2" freakish center, the rivalry has risen again. If you know any OKC fans, you've probably talked a little trash to each other over the years, but now they have a feather in their cap that the Spurs can't do anything about. They won a ring.
If you've seen what Philadelphia Eagles fans have done to NFL discourse since they won the Super Bowl in February, you understand how annoying some fans can be. Now, Philly fans are special, so I don't think the Thunder fans will rise to that level of egregiousness, but it didn't take them long to start being unbearable anyway.
This is interesting:

Chet Holmgren: 1 ring
Victor Wembanyama: 0 playoff wins
If you want cute stats, take Wemby. If you want to WIN, take Chet.
Spurs fans will be forced to endure stupid basketball takes all offseason
This sentiment was expressed more than a few times on social media in the immediate aftermath of a win I'm not certain the Thunder would have gotten had Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles not turned to Swiss cheese in the first quarter. The Pacers' star guard came out and hit three three-pointers in the first few minutes and looked like he was about to turn into prime LeBron James until he wasn't.
That doesn't take a ton away from OKC as injuries happen in sports, but that doesn't mean it can't be acknowledged. SGA and Jalen Williams starred throughout most of the series. If you want to talk about how good those guys are compared to San Antonio's players right now, I'll take that on the chin.
It's not an apples-to-apples comparison because Gilgeous-Alexander has been in the league longer than Victor Wembanyama, but Devin Vassell was supposed to be the next best player on the team before we found out that he can't be that on a winning team. Jalen Williams clearly is that, and he's been in the league for less time than Dev. That's a reasonable trash-talking take.
The teams were on different timelines, too. But nobody cares about that part when you're talking smack to a rival. You clown that team no matter what. But talking about Chet vs. Wembanyama is just asinine, though. This guy averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, and less than two blocks in the Finals. I promise you this: if and when Victor gets to and wins a championship, he'll be much more involved.
Most intelligent NBA fans agree that we shouldn't be comparing these two. It's like comparing a steak from Saltgrass to the green beans at Applebee's. Unfortunately, that's exactly what OKC fans are going to do for the foreseeable future. That sucks for the rest of us.
