Not so fast, Wembanyama.

At just 21 years old, Victor Wembanyama has shaken the NBA world. Joining the NBA from France just two seasons ago, the rising superstar has already risen the ranks and holds a spot amongst the NBA's best. Whether you want to clamor for his out-of-this-world athleticism, defensive instincts, or unseen offensive skillset, Wemby has it all.

Even after a 2024-25 season that was cut short by a blood clot in his shoulder, NBA analysts have paid their respects to Wembanyama as one of the best in the game. However, despite his unreal production thus far in his career, the hype train may be going off the rails.

In a poll of every general manager in the NBA, one GM stated that Victor Wembanyama was the best center in the NBA. While we love Wemby for everything he does, this is taking it one step too far. General managers are supposed to be the brightest minds in the game, yet here is one who is making an absurd claim.

Victor Wembanyama is great but not the greatest

Nobody compares to Nikola Jokic. Without a shred of doubt, he is not only the best center but the best player in the NBA. Although Wembanyama could get there one day, that day is not today. The 21-year-old still has a lot of work to do if he wants to be one of the best.

Above all else, Wembanyama needs more time on the court and some experience in the playoffs. It is hard to rank the Alien alongside the other NBA elites who have played countless games in both the regular season and the playoffs.

The playoffs are when the game slows down and the stars shine the brightest, illuminating a better picture of who is truly the best in the world. Jokic himself has put a team on his back and carried them to an NBA championship, which is a prime reason why he is dubbed the best in the world.

Given that Victor Wembanyama hasn't yet touched the playoff floor in his career, we can't say he's one of the five best players in the world. It is blasphemy to think that a young, playoff-lacking player in Wemby ranks above someone of the caliber of Nikola Jokic.

The hope is that our superstar will one day reach those heights, but it is crucial to let it all come in time. Vic still needs room to develop, and it is completely okay that he is not the best in the world quite yet. Don't make yourself look like a fool like this anonymous GM did, and stay patient with the blossoming star.
