The NBA Playoffs are still more than a month away, but the verdict is already in on the San Antonio Spurs' season. Regardless of how the Spurs' season ends, it has already been a runaway success.

After all, their over/under entering the year was just 40.5, but the Silver and Black have already won 48 games with 17 games remaining. Better yet, they are on pace to win 60 games for the first time since 2018, proving that this team is the real deal.

Critics might point to their lack of playoff experience as the reason why they aren't yet contenders. That may be true, at least among their young core, but every indicator suggests that San Antonio is one of the NBA's elite teams.

NBA can’t escape an obvious Spurs truth no matter how the playoffs go

Recently, NBA analysts Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe spoke about the Spurs, with both agreeing that this team is capable of winning a championship. Simmons even went as far as comparing them to the early Chicago Bulls teams featuring a young Michael Jordan.

His point being that he believes San Antonio could be in the first season of what may end up being a dynastic run. That would be great for San Antonio, but those teams only come around once a decade.

Not only that, but the NBA's recent collective bargaining agreement actively tries to prevent those dynasties from forming. More parity may actually hurt the mid-market Spurs, who could eventually be forced to make some harsh salary cap-related decisions.

Fortunately, the Spurs should have several cracks at winning it all with their current core of Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper.

The Spurs have clear win-now championship window

No one expected this team to be this good so quickly, which has given them more opportunities to win a championship this season. Right now it appears to be a four-team race with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the West and the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics in the East.

San Antonio is 8-1 against those three teams, just saying. Better yet, this Spurs team continues to get better, including having won 16 of their last 17 games.

That certainly makes them a championship-caliber team this season and puts them far ahead of schedule. Therefore, this season can only be considered a massive success for the Silver and Black.
