San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has developed a well-earned reputation for consistently posting monster stats. Nevertheless, one feat has eluded him: a quadruple double.
Recently, NBA analyst Kevin O'Connor boldly predicted that Wembanyama would not only accomplish the feat but would do so this season.
If any NBA player were to have a quadruple-double, Wembanyama would be the most obvious choice.
After all, he has recorded at least seven blocks 14 times in his career and at least seven assists 15 times. If he were to have a big game where he is absolutely shutting down the paint and his teammates were drilling shots from every pass he throws their way, then he could absolutely have a quadruple-double.
A quadruple-double is within reach for Victor Wembanyama
The last time a quadruple-double was recorded in the NBA was back in 1994 by David Robinson. Wembanyama could soon join hin in that exclusive club.
Considering how many monster games he's had with barely 120 games on his resume, it's entirely possible that he can have just one near-unprecedented game this season. After all, he has much better teammates now than he ever had before, and that should help him to rack up assists much more easily.
Scoring is obviously the easiest category of the four to reach double digits. Meanwhile, Wembanyama should also have little problem grabbing at least 10 boards, considering he averaged 10.8 rebounds per game last season.
He has also led the league in blocks per game and total blocks in each of his first two seasons in the NBA and may very well do the same this season. Therefore, he should have several big block games this season.
Victor Wembanyama can join an elite company this season
All of those factors combined could make Wembanyama the most likely player to achieve a quadruple-double. If he were to do so, he would be just the fourth player ever to do so and only the second Spurs player behind Robinson.
Being in the same company as Olajuwon and Robinson is a great place to be, with Wembanyama potentially being able to put his name in the record books. He already did so with his 40-point and 15-rebound demolition of the Dallas Mavericks on opening night.
He managed to surpass Hall of Famers Robinson and Tim Duncan in the Spurs' record books for the most points in a season opener. However, Wembanyama should aim even higher, with a quadruple-double being within reach this season.
