Mitch Johnson said at San Antonio Spurs media day that Victor Wembanyama is a full-go for training camp after being cleared by the Spurs and the league. That's pretty much exactly how Spurs fans wanted to start their Monday morning.

"Victor is cleared, he's been cleared by our medical team and the league," Johnson said, also saying that, "He's been ramping up, he's been in a really good place... He was in angst for a long time to get back, so I would say that's probably that more than anything," in reference to any rust Wemby might feel after returning from his DVT.

That makes sense — Wemby's love for being on the court was pretty obvious, and his frustration with not being out there down the stretch last season, especially after the team acquired De'Aaron Fox, was palpable, too.

Starting 2025-26 with a clean bill of health is just what fans hoped for — here's to hoping there are no lingering effects from an injury that remains extremely rare in the scope of NBA ailments.

Victor Wembanyama's health update is the best news Spurs fans could hear

The only thing that has stopped Victor Wembanyama during his first two seasons in the NBA has been this injury. So to hear that Wemby is a full-go for training camp, giving him a chance to to get more comfortable with De'Aaron Fox and the rest of the new Spurs, just raises the excitement level for this team even more.

Spurs rookie Dylan Harper isn't a sure thing to play in the preseason after undergoing thumn surgery though. Johnson said Harper is, "Doing well," but wouldn't say for sure if the No. 2 pick will play at all in the preseason — not wanting to put a timetable on his return to full action.

So, Wembanyama will have to wait a bit before he and the Spurs' thrilling rookie can get their timing down, but the expectation is that these guys lead the Spurs for the next decade; remembering the big picture will help the next few weeks not feel as long.
