Max Kellerman says truth Spurs fans already know about Victor Wembanyama

Kellerman is high on Wemby. How could he not be?!

The Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul podcast has generated takes that NBA fans everywhere generally don't agree with, but on Wednesday's episode, the former said something that every San Antonio Spurs fan knows is true.

"I'm not sure that Wemby isn't already the best player in the world. He's in the conversation. He's impossible. He's taller than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar."

Kellerman and Paul both firmly believe in the Spurs and think San Antonio can win it all after dominating Oklahoma City, beating Denver on the road (who cares about the high altitude?), and, most recently, knocking off the Pistons in Detroit.

Paul marveled at Wembanyama's guard skills, which are abnormal for someone standing seven-foot-four (in case you didn't know). He said that when you play the Spurs with Wemby, you're already at a disadvantage, playing five-on-six, as the space he covers essentially equates to another player on the floor. It's actually probably more like playing five-on-seven, as that's how phenomenal he is.

When San Antonio selected Wemby with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft, the rest of the league knew it wouldn't be long until the Spurs returned to their rightful status in the contender conversation. What they didn't know was how fast it'd happen, and how good Wembanyama would be so soon.

San Antonio is one of the best teams in the league, sitting No. 2 in the West, only 1.5 games back from OKC. Last year, no one had an answer for the Thunder, but Wembanyama and the Spurs are their kryptonite. They could very well come out of the West and take down whoever represents the East in the NBA Finals.

The doubters say San Antonio doesn't have the playoff experience to make a postseason run, much less stay fighting all the way into June. This group isn't battle-tested yet, but Wembanyama is so good, so unstoppable, that it might not matter all that much.

Of course, it's not just all Wemby, as Paul and Kellerman also discussed how good the team's role players are. We saw that against the Pistons, when Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle had off shooting nights. It was Devin Vassell who stepped up with 28 points, and Julian Champagnie added 17. That's a testament to what the Spurs have built.

Fans don't want to get their hopes up too much, but they know how special this team is and how their dream ending for this season is well within reach. Kellerman knows it, too.
