Knicks fans accidentally validated the NBA's biggest Wembanyama belief

After LeBron James signed with the 76ers, a popular Knicks fan account posted a meme on social media meant to shade Victor Wembanyama's Spurs, and simultaneously fire shots at Philly. But I saw something different, and hopefully, the rest of San Antonio's faithful saw the same thing.

Whether the creator intended it or not, the joke ends up reinforcing what's quietly becoming a realized prophecy: Wembanyama isn't just expected to be the next superstar. He's widely viewed as the player most likely to inherit basketball's throne as the Greatest of All Time. That's a very kind compliment for them to share with the rest of us.

The NBA's stars were warning everyone about Wembanyama before his arrival

The idea isn't new at all. We can see the potential, but we're actually watching the legend build, starting from the ominous warnings issued and praise levied by players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James before Wemby arrived.

"Everybody's been a unicorn over the last few years; well, he's more like an alien," James told reporters in October 2022.

"This kid is going to be a problem. Big, big problem. I've never seen this before in my life," Giannis told Serge Ibaka after watching Wemby play overseas.

So, the Knicks fan's meme is really just echoing what some of basketball's biggest names were already saying without trying to. Long before Vic played a game, stars were warning the general public of what was coming, and he's more than living up to the hype.

Even Nikola Jokic has admitted to recognizing the emerging threat

The Nuggets' star is always very complimentary of Wembanyama. Still, it was pretty funny to hear Jokic admit that he expects the French force of nature to run the league soon, and how he's glad he should be retired by then. He won't be—that's starting next season—but that only makes the statement more hilarious.

That's a significant nod to receive from one perceived by some as the NBA's current best player. Whether you agree with that or not, the multi-time MVP is undoubtedly in the top five, and game recognizes game.

This random Knicks fan may have been trying to make a joke at Bron's expense, but instead, they summarized how much of the basketball world views Wemby's future. Clearly, that includes them.

They can celebrate their NBA Finals win however they want, but any over-the-top victory lap falls flat. At 22, Vic led his very young team to the precipice. That's GOAT-level tomfoolery right there, and it's nice to see that we're all on the same page with what we're witnessing.
