The Celtics reportedly explored trading Jaylen Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo before the Bucks ultimately landed on a deal with the Miami Heat. That failed negotiation has led to friction between Boston and their 2026 MVP candidate. The relationship may already be unsalvageable, so Brown has been offered up to the league, according to Shams Charania. This should have zero to do with the Spurs.
The Celtics are entertaining trade offers for Jaylen Brown, per @ShamsCharania.

The Hawks, Rockets, Blazers, Clippers, Spurs, Nuggets, and Pelicans should be viewed as potential suitors for the 2024 Finals MVP.
But as you can see, people are already starting to throw San Antonio's name into the mix of potential buyers for JB's services. And it would be one thing if this were a one-off opinion from a single writer, but there are Spurs fans hoping for the same thing.
On top of putting together an MVP-caliber 2025-26 campaign, Brown is an NBA Finals MVP. Wanting his services is understandably tempting. But simply put, the Spurs just don't need him, and without any inside information, I'm pretty sure they don't want him.
Jaylen Brown solves few of the Spurs' actual problems
If you were to go down the list of Spurs needs—which isn't very long—a star wing wouldn't be on it. Stacking talent is great, but it's not that simple when it comes with a $305 million price tag. Brown is smack dab in the middle of an over-inflated, escalating contract that would only stick out more than it already does were he to land in San Antonio.
This group just made it to the NBA Finals without Brown. They suffered once they got there because they didn't have enough depth in their frontcourt, and their outside shooting failed them. Not to mention, the rotation was comprised of young players who had never played anywhere close to 100 games in a season before. Inexperience and fatigue caught up to them.
But which one of those things does Brown solve? They just gained the experience. They'll use it to condition their bodies and minds for the next rodeo. He's also never been a great shooter. The 2024 Finals MVP hasn't knocked down more than 35% of his threes since the 2021-22 season. And 6'6", 223 pounds won't satisfy the pressing need for more size.
Brown also seems to want to lead his own team. He was open about this past year being his favorite, despite being forced to play without Jayson Tatum as he recovered from an Achilles tear for most of the campaign. He won't be leading anything with Victor Wembanyama in uniform. This is The Alien's show, and everyone else must fall in line.
At the end of the day, the Spurs have plenty of what JB brings to the table. Dylan Harper, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle do a tremendous job of rim running, scoring in the paint, and wreaking havoc defensively on the perimeter. And after how Devin Vassell just performed in the playoffs, his value to the team has only increased. So, best of luck to Brown, but his next home won't be in the Alamo City.
