The San Antonio Spurs are currently battling the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Playoffs, but an intriguing potential offseason trade would see them ship out a long-time Spur.

Devin Vassell has been a Spur for five years and is just now living up to his big contract this season. Nevertheless, San Antonio could be open to trading him if the right deal came along.

Given how the Denver Nuggets' season ended, they may also be interested in trading several players. Not only that, but they may have interest in Vassell, but what would a trade between the Spurs and Nuggets look like?

Proposed trade would send Devin Vassell to the Nuggets

The potential trade would see the Nuggets send Aaron Gordon and Zeke Nnaji to the Spurs for Vassell. Gordon has been a crucial player to the Nuggets' success with his defense, passing, and versatility as a scorer.

He could thrive playing next to Victor Wembanyama in the starting five after spending years playing alongside Nikola Jokic. It can be argued that Gordon is better than Vassell, which would necessitate the need for the Spurs to take back Nnaji.

He is set to make about $8 million over each of the next two seasons. Despite that, he's been mostly out of their rotation. He's a capable defender but a poor offensive player.

Odds are he wouldn't have much of a role in San Antonio. Still, the trade is worth considering for the Spurs, but if it were offered to them, should they accept?

The proposed Devin Vassell trade is intriguing for the Spurs

A lot will depend on how this postseason goes for San Antonio. If they feel that they need to upgrade their roster, specifically at power forward, then Gordon would make sense.

Nevertheless, the Spurs might be better served by promoting Carter Bryant to the starting lineup next season. In doing so, they can see if he can give them a significant boost defensively.

They could still have Julian Champagnie come off the bench as well as possibly use the 20th pick in this year's draft to select a power forward. That would bolster their depth at that position and negate the need to trade Vassell for Gordon and Nnaji.

From the Nuggets' perspective, trading Gordon for a sharpshooting wing such as Vassell may not make sense either. They'd save some money but perhaps not give them the upgrade that they'd need.

All told, while it's an intriguing trade idea, it may not be the best option for both teams. Therefore, both sides would likely pass on this potential deal.
