There's no need to dwell on what just took place in the second Paris game of San Antonio's trip to France. Sometimes, you get as good as you give—especially against a very good Pacers team—and move on. Focus on the good things in your life, and you'll have more good days than bad ones. Victor Wembanyama is a great thing in the lives of Spurs fans. A gift that keeps on giving, so to speak.
Wemby gives immense effort on both sides of the ball every game, but his defense has been his calling card. He doesn't let players off the hook when they enter the lane or try to score over him on the perimeter, leading to a cascade of blocked shots. But what makes his jaw-dropping number of rejections unfathomable is the sheer variety of players he's impeded.
In his young career, Victor Wembanyama has played against 439 different opponents… and he’s blocked 197 of them (44.9%) at least once 🤯

Wembanyama takes no prisoners when protecting the basket
It takes a special drive and relentless effort to block this many different players a season and a half into his career. We've seen him meet guys at the rim, catch them from behind, block catch-and-shoot 3s, and iso pull-ups in the midrange. Any type of shot the NBA has to offer, Wemby has turned it back. His length, agility, and instincts allow him to reject the attempts of all comers.
The scouts warned us that the French kid was a transcendent defender, but guys get a ton of hype all the time. It doesn't mean anything until you see them against real NBA competition. These are the best athletes in the world, so claims that large are no small thing. We've been fortunate as Spurs fans that he's exceeded all expectations, but the rest of the league has been having a bad time.
If you care to see the full list, I have them in order here. I'll be keeping this up to date until Wemby's block rate tires me out, which could happen at any time.https://t.co/VKECIugMJD https://t.co/EpabRXUbsM pic.twitter.com/cdSVM9uHzD

It really makes you think back to last season and how it was robbery to give the Defensive Player of the Year award to any player not named Victor Wembanyama. He was doing similar things last season but fell victim to politics. Rudy Gobert, while special, never should have received the honor for the fourth time. This year, Vic is lapping the Stifle Tower in the blocks department.

Not much of a debate this season, huh. pic.twitter.com/C6KfTRQjaM
This stat was posted before this latest Spurs debacle. But before the Pacers went ballistic on San Antonio's head, Wemby added more numbers to his block total. He's exceeded 150 rejections in 38 games. That is a shot-blocking pace not seen in almost a decade.
This season has been full of unexpected surprises—some pleasant, others not so much. But watching the Alien protect the basket with a historically strong presence is not one of them. It's common in the annals of San Antonio basketball fans.
However, it's apparent that his opponents are still adjusting to his defensive superpowers. So, while they figure that out, Vic will keep adding names to his hit list, and we'll continue laughing at them.
