That De'Aaron Fox guy is pretty good at basketball. He's been a fantastic addition to this team, and being named to the NBA Cup 2025 All-Tournament team is just the latest confirmation. Any and everyone who doubted the Spurs when they signed this guy to a four-year extension needs a long look in the mirror. Fox has been everything this team needs, and he's just getting started.
The ex-Sacramento Kings point guard averaged 22 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds, and two steals in the six tourney games he played. His contributions were paramount to reaching the final. They didn't pull out the victory, but there were circumstances San Antonio dealt with outside of their control that likely played a role in that loss.
The New York Knicks deserve their credit, so I won't spill into a diatribe about the obstacles the Silver and Black faced, though. Good game, and I'll digress. This is about Fox and how his critics look clownishly silly now.
Suggesting Fox be traded was always shortsighted
It's so easy to get caught up in raw talent. People stop using their heads when they're excited by the flashy object in their face. Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle are the flashy objects in this metaphor. You don't throw out your 50" smart TV because you got a computer monitor. Wait. That's not good enough. Let's take this a level deeper.
If you have a healthy, adult dog everyone in your family loves, you don't get rid of it because you decided to get two more good boys. You keep them all. Now, you have one big happy family of canines who thrive, bond, and experience all the treats the world has to offer together.
Now, they may not be canines, but Fox, Harper, and Castle are definitely a strong trio of dawgs who will only get better as they go. It's okay to love them all, and that's what San Antonio fans have been trying to tell the weirdos who believed the home was too small to house them. Alright, enough of the dog metaphor.
The truth is that you can't see around corners. As awesome as the two younger Slash Bros have been, they're still inexperienced. This team is good enough to do something special, but you need veterans who can control the game for that. When Wemby, Castle, and Harper were down, Swipa was there to help the team keep pace. He's already proven himself invaluable.
Injuries will happen. The young guys will make mistakes. It's nice to have someone as skilled and poised as D. Fox to take over when those troubles arise. It was never a problem. It was always an advantage, and hopefully, everyone can see that now.
