Basketball is an emotional sport. It's emotional for the players and coaches who dedicate their lives to the craft. It's emotional for their family members who sacrifice in the shadows to help their loved ones reach their dreams. But it's also emotional for fans, and sometimes those feelings manifest in ridiculous takes—like the ones suggesting the Spurs move De'Aaron Fox and start Dylan Harper.

Well, I love to break it to them, but that's not happening anytime in the near future, if ever. According to Sam Amick, the Spurs are hoping their relationship with Swipa stands the test of time.

"To hear them tell it, this is the beginning of a long relationship between Fox and the Spurs that they hope leads to multiple championships. And, more specifically, they hope Fox enjoys the sort of sustainable, stable experience that he never had with the Kings." Sam Amick

The Spurs are rebuilding the dynasty bigger and better

As Amick mentions in his well-written article, this is the same franchise that won four NBA titles with Manu Ginobili coming off the bench. The Argentine dynamo was talented enough to start for his entire career. He would have been an all-star in San Antonio, and he would have been an all-star on any other team. Everyone knew this, including him, but that didn't stop the dynasty because he wouldn't let it.

The never-ending debate over whether the Spurs should trade Fox just so they can give Harper more minutes stems from the belief that all athletes are selfish. To be fair, most of them are and have been for as long as sports have been around. Sports breed competition, and you need belief in yourself to have a shot at winning anything. Wanting to start once they make it is understandable.

Still, there needs to be more selflessness involved if you want to play for the Silver and Black. San Antonio's bench unit will always be a threat if the ex-Rutgers star stays on it. He's already one of the most unstoppable downhill drivers in the league. He's only going to get better with the potential to be a bona fide superstar.

The Spurs are better with Fox and Harper playing together

That doesn't equate to an automatic spot with the starters. Not if the goal is to win several championships. De'Aaron Fox has been an underappreciated part of the Spurs' success this season. He's been a steady hand who doesn't make many mistakes, can pour in baskets in a hurry, and fits the culture to a T.

Their three-headed guard attack is only a strength if each member is a strong player. Only having two dynamic playmakers makes them no different than any other backcourt duo, and there are plenty of those. Substituting him for a lesser player but still trying to play with the same effectiveness is the epitome of hustling backwards. They're better off continuing to let this thing build into the greatness it's morphing into.

We can't forget that the Spurs aren't supposed to be in the Western Conference Finals. If they were to win a championship, they'd be the youngest core ever to do so since the 1976-77 merger. Growth together keeps four all-star-level players on the same team. We should all want that.
