After receiving plenty of criticism for his performance in Game 2 and Game 3 of the San Antonio Spurs' first-round playoff series, De'Aaron Fox had a statement game. He dropped 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists in the Spurs' huge come-from-behind victory.
That strong showing not only quiets critics but also gives the Silver and Black a huge boost heading back to San Antonio. After all, they can close things out on Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers in preparation for their semifinals series.
Fox and San Antonio would play either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Denver Nuggets. However, at half time of Game 4, it seemed as though the Spurs would be gearing up for a long series. That was until Fox and Victor Wembanyama took charge, helping the team storm back from a 15-point deficit to win by 21.
De'Aaron Fox made a big statement in the Spurs' Game 4 win
The Silver and Black outscored the Blazers by 38 points in the second half, with Fox's speed and shot creation providing a major boost. His jumper was absolutely filthy, hitting a combined seven mid-range jumpers and threes against Portland.
Each shot was like a knife through hot butter. Meanwhile, the Blazers had an ugly second-half showing, managing just 35 points in the third and forth quarters. Fox definitely played a part in that.
He proved to be solid defensively, effectively sliding his feet to stay in front of his man and playing physical enough to avoid getting bullied or targeted. That ensured that San Antonio had no weak link, making it that much harder to score with Wembanyama suffocating them in the paint.
Had Fox had another awful game, best believe that he would have heard it. Instead, his big performance puts San Antonio in the driver's seat to win the series. If they can take care of business on Tuesday.
In that case, the Spurs could be facing a weakened Timberwolves team. Hopefully with Fox continuing to help carry them.
