With the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, San Antonio selected Carter Bryant. Boy, are they glad they did that. His final game of the season, albeit in a loss, was the exclamation point on a sensational rookie campaign that saw the explosive forward earn rotational minutes on a deep roster due to his exceptionally rapid growth.
Cleaning up almost all mistakes young players usually make within an inaugural season is a rare ability for a first-year guy. If this is what his introduction was like, Spurs fans should be thrilled about his potential. The most valuable role player in the league is the 3-and-D wing, and Bryant has all of the tools to be as dynamic as anyone in the NBA.
Carter Bryant really is what we wanted Sochan to be

Carter Bryant does everything the Spurs need from his position
The social media user in the post above is absolutely correct. It's not a slight to Jeremy Sochan to acknowledge the truth of what happened during his time with the Silver and Black. He had and still has dedicated fans from his time in San Antonio. Everyone wanted him to develop into the player the team needed. It's unfortunate it didn't happen, but Bryant is here to provide those assets now.
He showed a little bit of everything against the Nuggets tonight, and we'll see it on the stat sheet with his 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. What's gotten him more time on the court lately is consistency in the little things, though.
Bryant has already learned to not be in a rush when he's on the court. There's a difference between decisiveness and hastiness. In high-leverage games, the latter can cost teams severely.
Rushing leads to mistakes, and veteran teams will always try to speed up young guys for that reason. We'll see how he holds up in the playoffs, but so far, he's figured out when to be patient under the rim, when to swing the ball one more time on the perimeter, and when to just go be a dawg and go for the poster.

Bryant's in-season improvement was glaring
You can tell that a player is getting better on the Spurs by how much the coach is trusting him with minutes on the floor. The former Wildcat barely averaged seven minutes in October and November. That number grew to about eight and a half in December and January. He's been playing an average of 15 minutes per game since the beginning of February.
We know how deep this roster is. He doesn't get that time on the floor without doing all of the little things a coach like Mitch Johnson requires to make it happen. Coach Johnson is not Gregg Popovich, but they have similar philosophies on taking care of the details. It's nonnegotiable.
You're expected to box out, hustle, make the extra pass, and embody everything it means to be a member of the Spurs. It's where the "Pound the Rock" mantra comes from. Either you're going to do it, or you're not going to play. Carter Bryant figured that out early, put the time in to get better, and earned his way into the hearts of San Antonio fans everywhere.
We're looking forward to a long and fruitful career from Bryant, and if he keeps elevating at the ridiculous rate we've seen thus far, the Silver and Black will have another bona fide star on their hands.
