Biggest threat to steal Chris Paul away from the Spurs is painfully obvious

This wouldn't exactly be a shock.

One of the biggest questions concerning the San Antonio Spurs' offseason is whether Chris Paul will remain with the team or whether he will sign elsewhere. If he does opt to find a new team, there's one Western Conference rival that seems to be a pretty obvious contender to be his next employer: the Dallas Mavericks.

All things considered, the Mavericks are in a very solid spot, and they're likely to still finish with a better record than the Spurs next season. After landing the number one pick and getting the right to draft Cooper Flagg, Dallas will be reloading and will have one of the scariest frontcourts in the entire association.

With Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving running the show, it wouldn't exactly be surprising if we saw the Mavs make another Deep Run in the playoffs next season. But the problem is, they'll be headed into the start of the season without Irving leading the way.

Chris Paul would be a smart addition for the Mavericks

As we all know, Kyrie suffered an unfortunate ACL injury, and he'll be sidelined for much of next season. With that in mind, Dallas is probably looking to sign another point guard to help them stay afloat while Irving works on getting back from his injury.

Who better to bring on board than Chris Paul? One of the smartest and most experienced point guards in the league, CP3 is a master floor general and will make any offense operate more efficiently. We saw what he did in mentoring the Spurs' young players this season, and the Mavericks could easily see that and desire for Paul to do the same for the guys in their locker room.

If you're Cooper Flagg, what better way to begin your career then with one of the greatest point guards of all time teaching you and bringing you along? It would be an absolute dream scenario for the young phenom. There's little doubt that the Mavericks have already had their eye on CP3 and his situation.

Let's also not forget that Paul just played all 82 games at 39, going on 40 years old. That's positively ridiculous, and it likely gives Dallas enough confidence that he'll be healthy for all of next season to go after him. There's no reports out there that confirm the Mavericks are interested, but it would be hard to think they're not at least thinking about it.
