Another horrible Spurs offseason prediction is about to be destroyed

The Spurs are dangerously close to deploying their three-guard lineup.

If you've made a habit of doubting San Antonio's plan this season, you should about-face right now before the embarrassment snowballs. They've already proven their doubters' claims about a few things, but the major item needing to be checked off the list is how effective De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper will be together. Take the over on this one, folks.

It's crazy to think that after all the debating over the Spurs' three-guard lineup, we haven't had a chance to see it after all this time. We're a month and a half into the season, and the biggest question of the summer still doesn't have a real answer. It has a ton of speculation. It's reinforced by the confidence from the team and the fans who believe in the players. Until we see them together, it's all make-believe.

Fortunately, I have a powerful imagination, and my powers of optimism know no bounds. With Stephon Castle showing up on the latest injury report as "QUESTIONABLE," we're closer to seeing the three best playmakers on the team play at the same time than ever.

The Spurs' 3-guard lineup will be a weapon

First of all, it's not like these guys have to play together all the time, and they won't. Harper will continue to run the bench unit, while Swipa and Castle open the game with the starters. They'll have a blast taking turns picking on whatever defender has the unfortunate task of stopping them from getting into the paint. When one rests, the other can come in and pick up where his teammate left off.

We've seen way too many lineups without a point guard on the floor, and it usually junks up the offense. You can't just ask anybody to initiate every play and think it will go smoothly. Thankfully, the Spurs know that, and all indications suggest that they never entertained trading any of their core players. That's a comfort.

Mitch Johnson has been hamstrung to a degree. There are lineups that he just hasn't been able to put on the floor because he's had so many players in and out of the rotation. If the injury bug is finally about to take a rest, he can start mixing and matching. I want to see the three of them on the court at the same time, and maybe that's my optimism peeking out again, but more likely, it's common sense.

Fox has great size for a point guard at 6'3", but Castle and Harper are the new-age archetype, similar to Cade Cunningham. Their stature allows them to defend shooting guards and small forwards, but they're both physical and athletic enough to do it. On the opposite end, they'll be a nightmare to defend because most teams don't have that many great perimeter defenders.

One of them will have the worst defender on the floor guarding them, and they can take advantage of that. Whoever has that guy on him gets to run the offense. They'll all score, but Fox will run the numbers up, Castle will get your players in foul trouble, and Harper will embarrass your big men entirely. It's a lose-lose-lose situation. The Pelicans may get their first shot at defending it tonight. Good luck to them!
