It's going to be a fun summer in San Antonio.

ESPN's Jeremy Woo wrote about his view of the Spurs' outlook this offseason and, without mixing words, said that San Antonio will be focused on improving the roster in the short term with the goal of getting to the playoffs in mind. That's fantastic news that Spurs' Nation will be excited to hear. Woo was very clear about what he's been hearing.

"San Antonio has designs on getting a healthy Victor Wembanyama to the playoffs next season, which means it will explore all avenues to improve its roster in the short term and will be involved in the free-agent trade market for established talent." - Jeremy Woo

That lines up with what we eventually expected. San Antonio is known for making low-key moves, but you don't gather the number of assets they have if you plan on playing it safe. As Wembanyama enters his third season and with De'Aaron Fox on the roster, the Spurs are up at bat, and it's time to hit a home run.

It's increasingly likely the Spurs will transform the roster in a major way

This morning, Shams Charania reported that Giannis Antetokounmpo is seriously considering leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. He wants to win a ring, and they haven't been able to put the right pieces around him to help him achieve that goal. The Spurs can solve that problem for him, while helping to send the Bucks down an optimistic road toward the future.

Kevin Durant is also on the market, and if they bring him in for the right price, it would add the perfect floor spacer to the team. Wembanyama, Fox, and Castle would have room to terrorize the middle of opposing defenses. Durant will be 37 in September, but he's still one of the best shooters in the league. If San Antonio could add him without overpaying, he would take the offense to another level.

The NBA Draft Lottery tonight, and the results will help teams determine what trade packages they'd be willing to offer for whatever players may be on the market. Some of those players will likely only be available if you present the right offer. You have to be careful when it comes to dangling players. If it gets back to the players and a deal isn't done, you risk hurting the relationship.

Free agency isn't the deepest it's ever been, but there will be options at positions the Spurs need. Between the two draft picks this summer, movable contracts, and the rest of their assets, San Antonio has everything they need to stop being patient and start going for it all. Based on everything we've been hearing, the chances are that's exactly what's about to happen.
