The San Antonio Spurs continue to fill out their Summer League roster by adding French big man Darel Poirier to the squad.
The San Antonio Spurs‘ Summer League roster will feature their three draft picks in Luka Samanic, Keldon Johnson, and Quinndary Weatherspoon, but they’ll need to fill out the rest of the roster with undrafted free agents and G League players before they begin their Summer League schedule.
The first reported move by the Spurs’ front office was to add Kenny Williams, a three-and-D prospect out of North Carolina.
The next reported name to join Kenny Williams and the Spurs’ three draft picks on the Summer League squad is Darel Poirier.
The 6’10” Frenchman spent last season with the G League’s Capital City Go Go, an affiliate of the Washington Wizards’ franchise.

Poirier averaged 9.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1 block in 20.1 minutes per game during his 40 appearances for the Go Go. He shot just over 50% from the floor and he hit one-third of his 1.2 three-point attempts per game last season.
Before his time in the G League, Poirier spent time with Cholet of the French LNB Pro A league.
Poirier only played 36 minutes over 7 games with Cholet in the 2016-17 season where he scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
We know the Spurs love their international big men based on the franchise’s history and their most recent top draft pick, and Poirier may still have some untapped potential at just 21 years old.
Poirier will get the opportunity to play alongside Samanic in the frontcourt during Summer League, which could be an entertaining pairing of European big men to watch this July.
