Spurs' Christmas Day performance makes one thing crystal clear for Adam Silver

This is a no-brainer for Adam Silver.

For as long as I can remember, the NBA has been a Christmas Day fixture. But this year, there was something different, something new from years past, something...alien. For the first time in almost a decade, the San Antonio Spurs were playing on Christmas Day.

Adam Silver answered the call to put the Spurs on Christmas day and the Silver and Black didn't disappoint. They ultimately left Madison Square Garden with a loss in the record book but the fight and passion they played with over the 48 minutes shouldn't be overlooked.

Victor Wembanyama left everything on the floor in his Christmas debut. He was nothing short of exceptional. He would end the day with 42 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Light work for one of the league's brightest stars.

Coming into this year's Christmas slate, there were real questions about the NBA's relevancy. Ratings declines have been a fixture of the league-wide discourse; the NFL was encroaching on Christmas Day for the first time. It wasn't hyperbole to think that we might be seeing the beginning of the end for NBA dominance on Christmas. Then Wemby took center stage.

Wembanyama and the Spurs need to be a Christmas Day fixture

Adam Silver should be direct-shipping belated Christmas gifts to the Spurs as thanks for solving his Christmas Day problems for him. Do you want to lock the NBA as a Christmas Day fixture for years to come? Feature Vic every single year.

Tip your hat to the NBA veterans who balled out on Christmas Day but if we're looking ahead there's no question that the brightest star in the league is playing in South Texas. Wemby stole the show on Christmas Day and Adam Silver would be a fool to not lean into that performance.

The careers of Steph, LeBron, and KD are nearing their end. The league needs fresh faces to captivate and hold our attention. Who better than Wembanyama to lead that charge? And what better way to promote him than putting him in the premier time slot on the league's biggest day?

Respect to Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and their peers but no one in the NBA can do what Wemby is doing. It was great to see him make his Christmas debut but the next step is to put him into the day's premier slot. Write Vic and the Spurs into that spot in Sharpie and don't touch it until he retires.

There are plenty of subplots around the Spurs to entertain the rabid NBA fans, but even if there weren't, even if the Spurs played a lineup of four dudes they pulled out of LA Fitness open runs and Vic, it would still be worth watching.

He is that singular of a talent. And when you have a star like that, you don't shove it into the tree with the other ornaments. You put it on top, and you leave it there. You let it shine as stars are meant to.
