3. Scouting prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft

San Antonio has collected a treasure trove of picks over the last couple of seasons. But none of their draft capital is as consequential as their lottery ticket in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. Although the Spurs own a 14% chance of winning the jackpot, fans should prepare for the possibility of missing out on the french phenom in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The unpredictable bounces of 14 ping-pong balls will decide their fate. As such, the Spurs should scout several lottery prospects as they brace for a worst-case scenario. While Scoot Henderson is a phenomenal consolation prize for whoever lands the second selection, the team should get familiar with names like Brandon Miller, Amen Thompson, and Cam Whitmore.

The Spurs also have a pair of second-rounders. They could utilize them to make upside swings or package them in a draft-day trade to move back in the first round. Whichever course San Antonio chooses, they will still have to do their homework. This franchise rarely misses in the talent evaluation department, and hopefully, they continue their streak of finding steals.
