6.) Double Curl (SLOB)

Each of the previous possessions ended in two points for San Antonio, but this one should serve as a crucial lesson for their burgeoning playmakers. Popovich dusted off "Double Curl" on this sideline out of bounds sequence, which should have eaten into their massive first-quarter deficit. Instead, Nicolas Batum snatched the ball out of the air and sparked a transition opportunity.

Much like the "Double Rip" set we looked into earlier, "Double Curl" has been a mainstay of the Coach Popovich playbook for a while. There are a handful of variations and alternative reads, but here is how the Spurs executed this SLOB on Sunday night and why it fell short.

Everything begins with Vassell curling the cross screens and looping to the weakside corner. Sochan follows suit, stops above the break, and McDermott inbounds the ball. San Antonio then moves into a shallow "Horns" action, where Collins and Wembanyama rescreen for Sochan.

The defensive mistake between Mason Plumlee and Westbrook opens the door for a Wembanyama alley-oop when he rolls to the rim. Unfortunately, Sochan is a second too late on his delivery, leaving Batum with a chance to soar in for a remarkable weakside rotation and erase what should have been two more points for the good guys.
