The 6’3 guard from Kentucky was not expected to be a one-and-done prospect. He ranked 33rd in his high school class and came off the bench for the Wildcats. Sheppard is not the prototypical NBA prospect, but his production was impossible to ignore.
The 19-year-old won SEC Rookie of the Year as he averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 28.9 minutes per game. Sheppard shot 53.6 percent from the field and 52.1 percent on his 144 3-point attempts. Those are not typos. Sheppard rarely missed during his lone season at Kentucky.
He is a connector who helps his team win. Sheppard can space the floor, handle the ball, run the offense, keep the ball moving, and play stout defense. He has a high basketball IQ and will fit nicely next to Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Topic.
