2. Matas Buzelis

The G League Ignite features the top two players in most mock drafts at this stage, and the Spurs should be heavily scouting their games. The Washington Wizards may be the only team in the NBA waiving the white flag right now. Every other team is trying to contend. If San Antonio quickly joins the tanking derby, they could easily get another top-five selection in 2024.

In the top five, teams should always pick the best player available. Buzelis is a 6’10 forward with All-NBA potential. He may be the top talent in this class, and the Spurs should be collecting unicorn skill sets to put around Victor Wembanyama.

Buzelis is a forward who can space the floor, handle the ball, run the offense, and guard multiple positions if he reaches his ceiling. The 19-year-old could play several different roles on a contending team and his versatility is intriguing.

There are questions about his defense and decision-making. The teenager went for the highlight a bit too much last season, and it will be interesting to see how that changes as he steps up in competition. If Buzelis is a lights-out shooter who makes plays and holds his own defensively, he could be the number one pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. It is still early, but the hype is just beginning.
