Scenario 4: Spurs draft Juan Nunez at 28 after acquiring Celtics pick

San Antonio could add more capital before or during the 2024 NBA Draft. They are in no rush and have shown a willingness to be the third team in a trade if they are getting a draft pick. Contenders will have late first-round picks on the block before the deadline and on draft night. The Celtics are one of several teams who could look to deal their selection for win-now help.

Nunez is an experienced international point guard who loves to make plays for his teammates. Through nine games for Ratiopharm Ulm, Nunez averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.8 steals in 22.7 minutes per contest. He is one of the best passers in this class and is in his fourth professional season in Europe.

Nunez played for Spain in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and could quickly move up draft boards if he continues to shine this season. The 6’3 guard turns 20 just before draft night and still has a ton of untapped potential.

The San Antonio Spurs would have to improve his jumper and defense, but at worst, Nunez is a steady backup point guard for the next decade-plus. It is difficult to find skilled playmakers and shot creators, and Nunez always has that in his toolbox.
