5 Best international prospects for Spurs to target in 2024 NBA Draft
By Tyler Watts
2. Alex Sarr
Would San Antonio draft another seven-footer to pair with Victor Wembanyama? Sarr is 7’1, but profiles as more of a four. The Spurs may dream of another Tim Duncan and David Robinson pairing in the frontcourt.
Sarr is a tremendous defender and would wreak havoc playing next to Wemby. The 18-year-old can protect the rim and switch onto the perimeter. His defense gets scouts excited and could quickly become impactful in the NBA.
There are questions about his best offensive role. Sarr is averaging 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 1.4 blocks in 18.0 minutes per game coming off the bench for Perth in Australia. He attempts over two 3-pointers each night but is shooting just 28.6 percent. Sarr’s play as a roll man has been inconsistent. There is potential to become a stretch four, but he needs time to develop his jumper.
Alex Sarr is oozing upside. The 18-year-old could be an elite defender who spaces the floor and rattles the rim. Few players in this class have more potential, and the 7’1 big man would likely pop in a larger role. Perth is one of the best teams in the NBL, and Sarr will keep getting better. Landing in San Antonio would be fantastic and could give the Spurs the best frontcourt combo in five years.
