The San Antonio Spurs are having a disastrous season. Victor Wembanyama is exceeding expectations and looks like a superstar in the making, but the rest of the roster has disappointed. Multiple players need a strong finish to prove they fit next to the French prodigy. The Spurs are also gearing up for the 2024 NBA Draft.
They could have two lottery picks on draft night. San Antonio currently has the third-worst record in the NBA and cannot fall below seventh after the ping pong balls have dropped. They also own the Raptors pick with a top-six protection. If the Spurs have two selections in the top ten, it could be another franchise-altering night.
The 2024 draft is filled with uncertainty. There is no consensus number-one pick and little clarity at the top. The Spurs are arguably the best franchise in the NBA at finding international talent, and this year several top picks could come from overseas. Who should San Antonio target?
5. Bobi Klintman
Klintman was born in Sweden but played his senior of high school in the United States and spent one season at Wake Forest before joining the NBL in Australia for the 2023-24 campaign. The 6’10 forward declared for the 2023 NBA Draft before withdrawing and deciding to try to improve his stock overseas.
He is averaging 10.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 21.6 minutes per game this season. The 20-year-old has shown flashes of his potential but has been inconsistent. Scouts rave about his length, size, and athletic ability. There is plenty to like, but do not expect him to be drafted in the lottery.
Bobi Klintman will be a mid-to-late first-round draft pick in June. Some team will fall in love with his upside and have a plan to develop him into a consistent role player. The 20-year-old has room to grow and will be fascinating to watch. He is the only pick projected to fall outside the lottery on this list.
