2. Salary dump trade

Teams are still looking to get talent off their roster and that is advantage Spurs. If they can use their remaining cap space to pick up a veteran and additional draft capital, San Antonio has to explore that avenue.

They already have a mountain of picks, but adding more only improves their chances of landing another top selection and making a blockbuster trade for a star to pair with Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs have six additional first-round draft picks over the next five drafts plus all of their selections. It is enough to acquire a superstar, but teams can never have too many assets.

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to dump JaVale McGee, and his $5.7 million salary hits nicely into the Spurs cap sheet, but their in-state rival is not offering the draft capital to make it worth it for San Antonio. This is the type of move they should be searching for. Can the Spurs pick up another first-round pick for taking on an unwanted salary? Even, two second-rounders could help San Antonio in a future deal.

The San Antonio Spurs have whittled down their cap space enough through other moves that this is not the most likely option. That lies with them getting involved as a facilitator to another deal.
