7 Free agents who should be on San Antonio Spurs' wish list

6. De’Anthony Melton
The Sixers are preserving cap space to chase another top-end talent this summer. Joel Embiid is the only player with a guaranteed contract for the 2024-25 season on their books. Tyrese Maxey is a restricted free agent. Philadelphia is not letting him go, but the rest may be on the chopping block as they attempt to add a third star.
Melton has struggled to stay healthy this season and is currently out with a back injury. Still, there is a lot to like. The 6’2 guard is a strong defender capable of handling the ball, making plays, and getting a bucket. His team is on pace to make the playoff for the fourth straight year, and Melton has been a key role player in each.
Melton solves some of the Spurs' biggest issues. He is a career 36.9 percent 3-point shooter and continues to improve. The 25-year-old is already a plus shooter, defender, and playmaker. San Antonio needs quality role players like that around Wemby if they want to become contenders.
De’Anthony Melton is making $8 million this season and can likely be signed for around the mid-level exception this summer after he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The San Antonio Spurs would have the space to add two players and significantly improve their talent around their soon-to-be superstar.
