Patty Mills epic Olympic performance overshadowed by postgame report
Patty Mills is one of those guys who was never a superstar, but he was so impactful in his role that he will be remembered long after his time on the court passes, especially for San Antonio Spurs fans. He's 35 years old now, but can still provide value from deep on the bench in the NBA. His ability to stretch the floor is more important than ever in today's league when spacing is a major focus of just about every offense in the sport.
He is 35 and undersized so there's no telling how much longer he has to contribute meaningful minutes to an NBA franchise. As far as his Olympic endeavors are concerned, fans may have just seen the last of Sir Patrick Thrillingston, according to Olgun Uluc, ESPN's basketball insider in Australia.
Patty Mills retires from the Australia team as a FIBA legend
Australia has only medaled once for basketball in the history of the Olympics. They won a bronze medal in Tokyo in 2020, beating Slovenia after losing to the United States in the semi-finals. Mills has been playing in FIBA since 2008 and averages 20 points per game internationally. He's always been a gamer who brings a ton of energy and represents his country with pride.
He represented San Antonio with that same pride, endearing him to Spurs fans all over the world, making it easy to root for him since his departure from the team. Patty exits the 2024 Paris Olympics with 26 points—including the bucket that forced overtime—in a losing effort to Serbia and the reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic 95-90. He's currently a member of the Miami Heat, so it's not the last we've seen of Mills, and hopefully, he gets another chance at an NBA title before he retires. He deserves it.
