The San Antonio Spurs have been killing it with their alternate jersey game in recent years, and this season could be the best one yet.
On Monday, the club announced the unveiling of their 2022-23 Nike NBA Classic Edition uniform will be none other than the historic black-on-black design from the Hemisfair Arena days. Spurs legend George Gervin was on-hand for the big reveal.
Spurs fans have been waiting for a return to this jersey for years now, particularly ones that used to watch the Silver and Black long before the Tim Duncan era began. While I wasn't around for those days, I've still grown to appreciate the aesthetic of having "San Antonio" draped across the front instead of the familiar "Spurs".
Twitter user resurfaces image of LeBron James in a classic Spurs jersey
Soon after the announcement, Twitter user @SpursInteracti1 dug up an old picture of 18-time NBA All-Star LeBron James decked out in an old-school George Gervin jersey.
There isn't much written online about this photo, only that it may have first surfaced via this Reddit post over eight years ago. Of course, Spurs Twitter couldn't help themselves after the image came across their screens.
In reality, there's virtually no shot LeBron James will ever be a Spur despite the lasting mutual affection he shared with Gregg Popovich. Despite turning 37 last season, he still remarkably set a career high in points per game for a season, though he did miss 26 games.
Still, with some dark days likely ahead for San Antonio, fans still like to dream of having a savior waiting in the wings eventually, however unlikely it is it will be James. If anything, it's good to see one of the greatest to ever do it has always had respect for the Alamo City before they even started their winning ways.
