Can Spurs pull off this trade to pair Wembanyama with Scoot Henderson?
It's the time of year for rumors to run rampant, and they are certainly off their leash and spreading to all corners of the NBA. The San Antonio Spurs are no stranger to those, either, including the possibility that the Spurs might go after a big-name point guard this offseason.
One popular rumor is that multiple NBA teams might be trying to trade up in the NBA Draft to take G League Ignite point guard Scoot Henderson. The New Orleans Pelicans, Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets are all rumored to be interested in Henderson. That begs the question: what if the Spurs were interested, too?
Could the Spurs trade for Scoot Henderson?
Owning the No. 1 pick means the Spurs can be interested in any draft prospect they want, but obviously they are taking Victor Wembanyama the second the draft begins this Thursday evening. The question on the table is whether they have the interest, and the scratch, to trade back into the draft at No. 2 to take Henderson and secure the top two prospects in the draft.
If that seems like a wild proposition, it certainly is! But it's not out of the question, either. The Spurs have accumulated a collection of talented and coveted young players that could whet the whistle of the Charlotte Hornets, currently slotted to pick second.
What would such a package look like?
