4 opponents we’d like to see the Spurs open the 2024–25 season against
2. Houston Rockets
The Rockets are one of the Spurs' most heated rivals, and it's only gotten worse since Wemby revealed that he didn't want to go to Houston with a little cheer during the NBA Draft Lottery last year. It was pretty hilarious to watch as a San Antonio fan, but for those donning those red and white jerseys, it was offensive. As someone who loves a great rivalry, I love that it reignited the feud between the two cities and hope the tension continues for years to come.
Unfortunately, the Rockets were ahead of the Spurs in their rebuild and fielded a better team last season. San Antonio lost three out of four matchups to their I-10 rivals, with the only win being at the very beginning of the year. The 45-point, 16-rebound performance from Alperen Sengun is enough to leave a bad taste in the mouth of every Spurs fan in the world. It was an embarrassing night, as Sengun seemed to do whatever he wanted that night.
What makes it even worse is that when they matched up again, Sengun was already out for the remainder of the year due to injury, and San Antonio still lost the game. The guys need some payback, and opening night would be the perfect time to get it.
