Winner: Cedi Osman
Cedi Osman seemed like a salary cap filler in the multi-team trade that landed him in San Antonio this summer. However, the veteran forward was a pleasant surprise during the preseason, doing almost everything right and securing a significant role in the second unit as the Spurs head into their season opener. He showed offensive versatility and contagious energy, blocking shots and draining threes on the other end of the floor.
Despite losing a plug-and-play specialist in Keita Bates-Diop over the summer, Osman should replace his production as a key player off the bench. Once again, the Spurs have found another diamond in the rough that slipped through the cracks for the rest of the NBA. His brand-new head coach even went out of his way to praise the Turkish playmaker.
"He’s a pro," Popovich said of Osman. "He’s a tough kid. He’s confident, a team player."
