3 Ways Keldon Johnson can cement his long term future as a Spur
By Sean McKenna
Before we get into the crux of this article, I want you all to know I’m a Keldon Johnson fan. He’s the leading scorer in my 2K dynasty, I took my son to Keldon Johnson bobblehead night last year, and I think he’s a rock-solid player. With that said, Johnson must still prove he fits into in the Spurs' long-term plans. I'll do my best to remain unbiased, as any reputable writer does, so take the journey with me as we discuss how he can cement his status as an indispensable member of the young core.
1.) Keep Scoring
First and foremost, Keldon can cement himself on this team by continuing to do what he’s done best since joining the Spurs. It may sound simple, but he needs to keep putting the ball in the basket. The 23-year-old forward has increased his scoring output by nearly five points each season since he was drafted, peaking at a career-high 22.0 points per game in 2023-24 as he became the go-to option for San Antonio.
Johnson has a clear ability to consistently light up the scoreboard, and he does it in a variety of ways. Fans know him best for his aggressive drives to the basket, and that physicality helped him draw 175 fouls last season. All those whistles earned him 327 trips to the free throw line, which was great news for the Spurs since he has shot a reliable 75.2% from the charity stripe during his career.
