2024 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: Spurs find point guard, Raptors keep lottery selection
By Tyler Watts
30. Boston Celtics select Hunter Sallis
The Celtics made several attempts to find a backup for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the 2023 offseason, but none worked out as planned. Boston has arguably the best top-six in the NBA but needs depth. Getting a wing with size is a must to round things out.
Sallis spent his first two NCAA seasons at Gonzaga before transferring to Wake Forest. He locked down a starting role and broke out in year three. The 6’5 wing averaged 18.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals in 35.4 minutes per game. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range and profiles as a score-first guard off the bench.
The Celtics do need another scorer, but the 21-year-old has untapped potential. Can he become a solid defender and transform into an NBA starter? Do not rule it out, and it could be a massive win for Boston with the final selection of the first round.
The 2024 NBA Draft has plenty of uncertainty from top to bottom. Expect some surprise names to be called on June 26 and 27. Does some team select Bronny James in hopes of getting LeBron? Who goes first overall? All those questions and more will be answered, so please tune in and enjoy.
