29. Denver Nuggets choose Tristan da Silva
The Nuggets could be searching for a wing in this draft if Kentavious Caldwell-Pope declines his $15.4 million player option and becomes an unrestricted free agent. Denver is pushing the second tax apron and is comfortable promoting from within. KCP is a crucial role player, but the Nuggets cannot afford to pay him $20-plus million per year.
Denver has a handful of young wings, so do not be surprised to see them target someone with a bit more size and versatility. Finding a backup for Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon could be the target. Ideally, it would be a shooter capable of switching on defense.
Da Silva played four years at Colorado and is more NBA-ready. The 22-year-old averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 33.8 minutes per game as a senior. He shot over 39 percent from 3-point range for two straight years and his versatility should make him a first-round pick.
There are questions about his athletic ability and defense at the next level, but Tristan da Silva should be an impactful role player in the NBA. The defending champions would love to add his versatility off the bench and could help him reach his ceiling.
