2024 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: Spurs find point guard, Raptors keep lottery selection

24. New York Knicks snag Devin Carter
The Knicks have back-to-back picks in this mock draft and will be searching for depth. Head coach Tom Thibodeau wants stout defenders, and New York may attempt to acquire a star. If no trade becomes available, expect the Knicks to add talent that fits their system.
Carter raised his stock significantly in his junior season. The 6’3 guard improved his scoring, defense, playmaking, and jumper as he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.0 block in 35.3 minutes per game. He shot 47.3 percent from the field and 37.7 percent on his threes.
Carter is a stout defender both on and off the ball. He stands out on that end, which makes his jumper more important. If he can become a plus-shooter with some playmaking chops, every team in the NBA will want him. Coach Thibs will improve his defense, which could be best for his long-term development. The 22-year-old must settle into an offensive role to get significant minutes.
The Knicks have Miles McBride and Donte DiVincenzo behind Jalen Brunson, but they are a deep squad. Expect New York to select the two best fits for their system, and Devin Carter is one of their answers. He may be more of a two-guard than a true point, which makes it easier to fit him in.
